At Lamaro, traceability is a key value of our approach. It is part of our desire to offer you more ethical and responsible pieces, on social and environmental level. That's why it's important for us to inform you about where the materials we use and select with the utmost care come from.

All our bags and small-leather goods are handmade, using traditional techniques, in our French workshop located in Aix-en-Provence. We make it a point of honor to source as locally as possible, in France or in neighbouring countries.

Leather

All the leathers used to make our bags and other accessories of small leather goods come from the upgrading of existing materials: manufacturing waste, surplus and dormant stocks from the most famous French or European tanneries, or from prestigious leather goods houses.

We only use skins from the food industry, including calves, goats and lambs. Our leathers are selected with the utmost care and we only use so-called "full grain" leathers, which means that the outer part of the skin, the strongest, has been preserved (unlike split leather).

Although the bags are cut in the noblest parts of the skin, we want to avoid waste by working the scraps for smaller items.

The sewing thread

For the saddle stitch, made by hand in the purest tradition, we use a mythical wired linen yarn, the famous Fil au Chinois. It is manufactured by a Living Heritage Company, which has been in operation for almost 120 years, located near Lille. Linen thread, beyond being a natural fiber, is used for its great solidity. It is then waxed with beeswax, manually in our workshop to protect it from further friction. This technique combined with the saddle stitch promises you a seam that will last over time, and if necessary, can be easily repaired.

The shoulder strap

The core of our shoulder straps is made of a linen rope, cultivated and braided in France. As France is the world's leading producer of linen, it is a natural material that we want to value. It ensures solidity and flexibility to our shoulder straps.

Slice dye

Edge finishing is a key step to provide top-of-the-range quality leather goods. The dye makes the edge waterproof for greater durability. We supply our dyes from French manufacturers.

Accessories

At present, we supply all our accessories (clasps, carabiners, etc.) from a wholesaler located in France that supplies itself from Italian manufacturers. Our accessories are made of brass, iron or zamac depending on the references. Our ultimate goal is to manufacture our custom accessories from French manufacturers.
